it is very true. however, when you reach certain level, you don't even have to have that secrecy component to appreciate other people's individuality and uniqueness. the problem embedded in this situation iswhen others cannot see your perspective and are only grounded in their owns, they might view you as distant. This is just human nature. We can neither be too far apart nor be too close. Along familiarity is intimacy intertwined with whole bunch of other feelings. I think appreciation and intimacy are 2 different things. yes, you are right. you don't have to have intimacy to be able to appreciate. Still, you would feel close more if you could appreciate the other. In a simple way, I can understand your pointthat if you think he/she is special, then treat him/her in a way you appreciate regardless his/her different opinions. Because you appreciate, you see the uniqueness, not the awkwardness.
