S/390的书IBM网站都有，但上机的地方不好找。AS/400业余学习也很难。一般都是在工作中学。我在的公司这些系统都有。

General speaking, mainframe is big IBM enterprisal machine S/390 series (You may know S/370, which is old type).OS can be OS/390 (new MVS version) and VM. OS390 is much more popular and powerful than VM in terms of enterprsal IS environment.
Comparing with S390, AS400 is just a little kid in terms of function and stabaility, although many persons think AS400 as a mainframe. Usually we call As400 a "Midrange".
What you need to know as a entry level developer
1) ISPF/TSO, JCL
2) IBM utilities
3) COBOL
4)........
Where to learn
Centennial college has a few related courses, so does Humber college.
