That's right，DB2 for mainframe was released in 1983, 4 years later than Oracle; DB2 for Unix, Windows and OS/2 started in 1993.

Most banks use IMS and DB2 on mainframe now. IMS was founded in 1968 though.

Tiny? IBM had most of its sales being for DB2 and SQL-DS on the mainframe and DB2/400.

That's right. Most ficancial service firms use IBM products, including both DB2 for zOS and DB2 LUW. DB2 for zOS doesn't compete with Oracle, only DB2 LUW does and catches up well.

It counts maket share by revenue so favor IBM/Oracle, if counts by license, microsoft would increase more rapidly.
