if the connection is not 127.0.0.1 (local), you can use firewall to disable the certain/all connection from the application. there is free firewall available. search spf.exe

I am not sure if it contains a spyware or not. Can I somehow just freeze these .exe's?

sure. once I found one of application(unknown to me) have a lot strange traffic, I blocked it. later, I found it is 冲击波。then, I just use editor put a english joke in the .exe(.dll?)file. i think it died therefore.
