hyperterminal如何不工作？
ensure that :
1.you use the correct null modem cable.
2.hyperterminal is set to 9600,n,8,1

用过9600,n,8,1, 不工作, 我的null modem cable 以前在Sun Enterprise 250上工作没有问题.

Assuming you have the cable and Hyper Terminal in place, to get the "console prompt", you have to press the proper key. It probably is F8, not sure, though.

check if you connect your rs6000 from a correct serial port on your PC.
this is usually com2 on a laptop.sun automatically redirect stdin/stdout to serial A on the server. not sure about how null modem work with rs6000, but mostly should be the same.

It doesn't matter which serial port on laptop is connected. It DOES matter which serial port on RS6000 is connected, coz ...the daemon of tty monitor only watches the specified serial port, this can be modified via config file.
It is the same for Sun box.

Laptops tipically have 2 serial ports: one for modem card, the other is free to be used for connecting external serial devices.you use the second port to connect to a rs6000 server through a null modem. what I meant by saying "correct port" is that the hyperterm settings must specify the external port on which you plugged the null modem cable as the communication channel.
yes, the server side is configurable, for SUN, using the PROM consol commands.
