i'm not familar with AIX NIM DD. My question is, in another word, if boot disk corrupt, how to recover the system with network(NFS), install CDROM, and local spare hard disk.

Got ur idea. In case the boot disk corrpt, do u know how can I get shell to do cmd 'dd'? Use first install disk or something else? Or I need to install a backup OS on another disk/partition for emergency situation?

有两种办法,不管哪种,第一你肯定要先dd备份到spare disk, 否则免谈. 有了dd备份,你可以要么直接从spare disk boot 或从cd boot...装完OS后dd data back.

换了台机器，可以输中文了。再问个外行问题：在solaris上，DD可以overwrite 分区表和label吗？换句话说，s2到s2的dd可以实现完全的镜像，对吗？

我认为不可以...dd是clone..mirror 不是clone. mirror是动态的.应说s2到s2的clone. SUN Solaris 2.6系统的克隆方法 (ZT)

thanks. What I understand are: 1. clone need to done at single-user mode; 2. if there is file system use the master disk partition, /etc/vfstab need to change in the cloned disk to reflect the device path.One thing I don't understand, is the step 12. what the sys-uconfig for? what need to be changed?

这个问的好, slice 2 is special...you can try....但你也可以一个个的dd呀...其时,用tar也可...到时,用cd boot, 然后tar回来,我的经验是sun最好就只做一个分区 / .

OK, I will try to use s2 do duplication. Still wondering, what's the label for, when system boot up, it complain that labels are corrupt on another 4 disks.

Jumpstart 是sun的,NIM是aix的...我上面讲了,如果有spare disk你可考虑用dd把数据备到spare disk.

solaris好久没用了，不过查了一下，grub也支持solaris阿。你可以把boot 和 system 分开，装grub在/boot作为启动管理，再建一个新的分区，把系统分区复制到新分区（cp -Rp就可以吧 ）,在grub中加一个新的引导。然后你就可以格式华系统分区了。

except from dd, you can use ufsdump piped to ufsrestore.something like this:
/usr/sbin/ufsdump 0f - filesystem_to_dump | /usr/sbin/ufsrestore rf -

BTW, I have a DDS2 tape drive in Sun 611 enclosure for sale. For real world backup, tape drive is always better than a hard drive.

The drive comes with 1x4G and 6x2G tapes. Price is negotiatable.
