if I'd like to apply B1/B2 visa, what reason should I give? If I just say I want to have a stop at Los Angelas, would visa officer only give me a transit visa?

As far as I know, all filghts from Vancouver to Sydney will stop at Holonunu, Hawaii. I applied a transit visa with twice entries two years ago and was given a multiple B1/B2 visa valid for 5 years.

AIR CANADA:Toronto Vancouver Sydney. It might not fly everyday. Please change the date if you can not find the flight. Fly to New Zealand is another option. Air New Zealand is code share airline with Air Canada

get US transit visa which is valid 48 hrs and free of charge. You can apply in Toronto consulate.I got this info directly from Toronto Consulate last year.
