Specifically, where you have come from, where you are going ( that is, in the doctoral program and, more importantly, beyond it), and how these two fit together.
应该是说说以前的经历（career activities, where you have come from）和要申请的研究兴趣(where you are going )，以及以后的目标(beyond it)是不是？"at length"下边还单独画了线，什么意思？
