Thanks for your reply. Please see the email from U of T. Although money is not a problem to me, I feel disappointed about their decision. Maybe I will reject it.

Thank you for applying for admission to a graduate degree program in the Department of Mechanical and
Industrial Engineering. We have recently considered your application but we regret to inform you that, due to the
lack of supervision and funding, we cannot offer you admission to the Ph.D. program.

However, we are prepared to offer you admission as a Master of Engineering student, commencing September
2001. Depending on your commitments outside the Department, you may register as either a full-time or part-time
student. (Please note that there is no financial support or fellowship for M.Eng. students.)

The M.Eng. Program normally requires successful completion of ten half-courses at the graduate level. However,
an engineering project, supervised by one of the professors in our department, will be accepted in lieu of three
half-courses.

I realize that this is not the program for which you applied, but hope that it may serve your purposes.

Please let us know by return e-mail if you would like to do an M.Eng. degree program in our department.

Sincerely,

A.N. Sinclair

  • 工作学习 / 求学深造 / I got an admission to a Master of Engineering program of the department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at University of Toronto.
Of course, no financial support and fellowship will be provided for the M.Eng. program. It is worth studying for this program using my own money?

Please give me a suggestion. Thanks in advance. You can email at dixon_721@yahoo.com, or just post here.
    • 100% worthwhile, i am just wondering, for MEng study, u didnt receive TA or RA? course- or thesis-oriented? get in 1st, contact intended prof for RA and apply TA from dept ASAP? what is ur major? thermo/mfctg/materail/dynamics?

        • 1 where are u? 2,
looks like it is a course-oriented MEng, probably there is no RA for now, but 3
rules can be bent, as long as u talked to prof and he/she OKs to finance you somehow, situation can be better. 4 MEng is more competitive than phd (post hole digger :-)) in job market
          • Thank you for your info.
I am currently in Singapore and will arrive in Toronto on June 24 as a new immigrant. A professor of U of T will interview me right after I get there. I contacted him in April. He asked me to call or send email to him to arrange an appointment.

I will contact McGill and McMaster to check the processing status.

Thanks a lot. You can email me at dixon_721@yahoo.com.

            Nice to talk with you.
            • sounds promising, good 4u
    • Why reject? You can ask for award later.
    • It should be a course-oriented program. I don't think it is worthwhile if you can not get any financial support.
    • You'd better register as a part-time student and find a job to support your study if possible.
