how many exchange server u have in ur company? and try this:

Setup /r, will not create the .DIR, .PUB, and PRIV.EDB files. Normally these files are created from the organization and site name given during setup. Setup /r simply copies the DIR.EDB exactly the way it is from the Exchange Server CD-ROM. You will not be able to start the directory service with this default DIR.EDB after running setup /r.
If you plan to restore only the information store and not the directory store, do not run setup /r: it requires you to restore all of the database files (.DIR, .PUB, and PRIV.EDB).

    有1台生产机，运行exchange，上有近千mailbox。现在在搭建一个实验环境，想把Exchange的环境copy过去。
    我现在把NT账号，和exchange的private information store都成功的弄到试验环境中了。可碰到一个问题，在实验机中，每个邮箱所对应的NT account那一项是空的。我不想一个一个指定了，上千个邮箱，太多了。有没有什么法子可以把NT账号和Exchange邮箱的对应关系也复制过去呢？

    • why don't u use ghost to clone all the disk and test on it. however, for migration from 5.5, u could use another path. -speed(如风); 2002-12-9 {349} (#903141@0)
      because exchange 2000 and 5.5 can co-exist, u could move your 5.5 mail boxes directly to 2000 server, then upgrade ur primary server, move the mailboxes back. Personally, i don't like the idea upgrade on the original machine directly, i would rather like to make a clean installation and move the boxes around for future stability. just my 2 cents.

          Stop all the Microsoft Exchange services.
          Determine the location of the database and logs for the directory service and information store service, from the following registry locations:
          Directory Service log path
          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeDS
          \Parameters\Database log files path


          Directory Service database path
          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeDS
          \Parameters\DSA Database file


          Information Store Service log path
          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS
          \ParametersSystem\DB Log Path


          Private Information Store database path
          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS
          \ParametersPrivate\DB Path


          Public Information Store database path
          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS
          \ParametersPublic\DB Path


          Copy the Dir.edb file (in the Dsadata directory) to the directory service database path.
          Copy any directory service log files to the directory service log path.
          Copy the Priv.edb file to the private information store database path.
          Copy the Pub.edb file to the public information store database path.
          Copy any information store log files to the information store service log path.
          Start the Microsoft Exchange directory service.
          From the command prompt, change to the Exchsrvr\Bin directory and execute the following command:

          isinteg -patch


          Start the information store service.

          install a BDC first and off line this machine, update to PDC. install exchange 5.5 for recover option, install service pack. copy the public store and prive store and start the service.

      you can get domain account information by setting up a bdc in your production environment and promote it to pdc in your lab...and for exchange, your can only backup and restore directory service if you don't need information store service in your lab, not a problem....
