It has to be longer than that. Lutron has a battery powered occupancy sensor, which controls a light switch via wireless technology, the battery it claims to last 10 years.

That thing use a lot more frequently (it needs to be active all the time to detect + transmit) than the water meter transmitter.

So I'm not surprised if the water meter transmitter can last a long long time.

      • 应该不是吧。水表没接电源,怎么无线呢?
        • 刚到地下室看了看,水表上有接电线,应该是直接连到外面总表的。外面应该可以读表
        • North York的是远程读表的,水表上装了个转换器。
          • 远程还可以理解,连一根线就行了。无线,需要自带电源。不过水表数据不用realtime,估计太阳能见光就发一点信号出去,平均每天发对一次信号就行了。万一地下室装修的太黑,就不知道怎么办了

    • 至少这几年,或wireless transmitter,高性能电池应用以前,抄表人员也不需要进屋的.所以wireless不是最初方案,水表上应该有根导线通往室外,但那是无源的,不须电池,可能连着表内的一个线圈/电阻/电容什么的,抄表人员在屋外用电/磁探头之类的就可以读取表数
      • 这个才是正解,多伦多用的啥新技术不知道,我们这就是从电表拉根线到室外,抄表的就从室外的接口读取数据。。。
