I JUST WANT TO DO IT。

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

                • Agree, however, I don't have quick solution to it either. The good vision and high level craftsmanship is result of long time experiences.
      • Beach chairs go with water. Get a little pond or a pool in your backyard.
        • Very good suggestion.
I always think that the lawn in my backyard is a pond with water in green color.

The chairs were made in 2004. One day I browsed a landscape book in a book store.
Suddenly I was shocked by a picture in the book. In the picture, I was extremely impressed by a pair of deep red chairs. I was deeply touched by its elegant structure, very stable, however full of sense of dynamic. I told myself I want to build them.

Then I started doing research on the design and building procedure through internet and borrowing books from community library. It took about several weekend to finished the work. It was built with 2x6 cedar wood, painted in colonial red color paint (from home depot). The total cost was about $150, yes, much more costly than buying from store.
However, I fully enjoyed the whole process very much. Now, I put them in a corner of my backyard. It becomes one of best views in the garden.

Here is the article I followed to make the chairs.

      • About the octagonal patio table
In year 2008, I went to Canadian Tire looking for one kind of climbing rose. In the store's outdoor gardening section, they setup a patio just for decoration purpose. On the patio, I found a octagonal table and eight chairs. I was very interested in it and took several pictures with my cell phone.

There is one issue I always think of, that is how to make backyard more inviting. My previous experience told me that as long as you put a chair in backyard, people will find time to sit on it, no matter how shabby the backyard is. As long as you put a table and several chairs on the deck, family members would like to have dinner or breakfast there.

Basically, I separate the deck area into 4 major areas. One is outdoor living room, one is outdoor dinning room, one is outdoor kitchen, the last one is "beach area" where you can lie down on a lounge, baking yourself under the sun.

This octagonal table is for outdoor dinning room. It was build with cedar wood in about 3 weekends.
    • I will show it to my husband. Hope he will get motivated! :)
    • It is not a very good match if the color of deck and furniture is too close or same.
      • I think so too. I bough different stain for the table. Somehow the difference is such little that it looks the same color as the deck.
