Why do you need to master leadership skills?
You do not want to be a leader, so you don’t need to know leadership skills? But what happens when your spouse does not listen to you, when your kids do not obey your rules? You feel sad and angry, you yell and scream. You are driven by them! Why don’t you lead them? You need to learn leadership skills.

What is Leadership?
Leadership is the ability to influence a group of people toward the achievement of common goals.
A simple goal like “the family needs to leave at 6pm sharp for trick or treating” is chosen by whoever leads. That requires the leader to “have vision to shape the groups goals.”
We have the goal now, we need to know whether the group are capable to achieve it. If the little kid eats way too slow, train him so we can leave before 6pm. The leader takes the responsibility to improve the capacity of the group.
We have the goal, we have the capacity, but if sister and brother fight for the candy bags, you still cannot leave before 6. The leader needs to improve the groups’ structure, climate and communication.
We have the goal, we have the capacity, we have the cooperation, but if kids are side tracked by pets, still we cannot achieve the goal. Leader needs to Influence the group to become focused and productive.

In a nutshell -
Leaders know what they want and why.
Leaders know how to share their goals with others and gain their cooperation and support.
Leaders know how to achieve their goals.
Are Leaders Made or Born?
Leaders are made and are also born …… Ever met someone who wasn’t born?
To become leaders, we need to learn…

Good tips are like good medicine to make you robust. (use medicine bottle as a prop), try these pills if you have Leadership problems.
It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front.
Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do.
A man who wants to lead the orchestra must turn his back on the crowd.
Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument to offer a solution everybody can understand.

Leading is about the art of Directing and Supporting.
(use the same prop, tell audience bottle = leader, cap = members, or the other way round when necessary, use gestures. )
Directing is pulling the team to leader’s destination, and that is the common goal as well. (pull to the right), this is good when the group is weak but the leader is strong. Leader tells the group what to do.
Supporting is to let group find out their destination (push the bottle up to where their goal and therefore the common goal is) then leader supports them.
If you give both Directing and Supporting, you lead by Coaching ---- have two-way communication, but leader makes decision (push and pull the bottle to up right corner).
You can give Low Supporting and Low Directing ---- let them make their own decision and run their own show. This is called Lead by Delegating.(follow where the bottle goes). That means, you still lead even you have no idea about what they do, as long as within you have good leadership skills. Use it more when your kids are taller than you..
Now go back home to lead your spouse and other family members. If these skills do not work, I’ll tell you two powerful skills to maintain your leadership ---- yelling and fist.
To summarize,
Leaders know what they want and why, know how to share their goals and gain cooperation and support and how to achieve their goals.
Remember to lead by Directing, Coaching, Supporting and Delegating… and more important thing is Influence
