Hi experts,
Recently I ran some OS/DB migration tests on SAP ECC6/Oracle 10 and I realized the SAPINST export/import time was really kind of pain... Personally I think the SAPINST was doing something similar with Oracle export/import and that's the reason for low performance...You experts may still remember everytime when you performed an OS/DB migration on TB level SAP systems, the timeline would be well over 10~40 hours....
So anybody tried Oracle 10g's new feature 'CONVERT' by RMAN? Personally I tried it in stand-alone Oracle small dadtabase(Maybe 20G) which converted the DB from Linux to AIX, no problems, and, very fast. However I haven't got a chance to test in SAP environment...(Not sure in this case it's still need an SAP Migration Key? because it's not performed by SAPINST). If it's possible to use Oracle 'CONVERT' that will save at least 50% time of OS/DB migration....
Some document about Oracle CONVERT between different platforms:

By the way, Both Linux and AIX are Power version, which are 'Big' ENDIAN_FORMAT更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
