answers for OSAP eligibility

By the time you start full-time postsecondary study, i.e. first semester starts Sept 2002, you have to meet one of these:

1. If you are on your own, no partner, no parent resident with you in Ontario, you have to live in Ontario for 12 consecutive months.

2. Or your partner has lived in Ontario for at least 12 consecutive months

3. Your parents have lived in Ontario for 12 consecutive month.

4. If you lived other provinces before, and don't meet 1/2/3, you have to apply for fund through other provinces agency.

So if you are a new immigrant, and only live in Ontario for six month by now, you may or may not eligible for OSAP, depends when you will attend your study, if the study begins six months later, go ahead to apply, otherwise you have to wait until your next semester.

    Required Supporting Documentation:

1.You indicated that you are a permanent resident; therefore, you must provide a copy of your Canadian Immigration Record.

    2. You are not considered to be a resident of Ontario for OSAP purposes. If you have lived in another province, you must contact that province's student assistance program to see if you are eligible to apply. If you are not eligible and you wish to be considered for OSAP assistance, you must provide a detailed explanation of your residency history, any relevant supporting documentation, and a letter outlining your eligibility for its program from the student assistance program in the province in which you lived.

3.Your income (and that of your partner, if applicable) is less than $6,200. You must provide a letter and supporting documentation indicating how your (and your partner's) daily living costs, such as rent or mortgage, and food, are being met.

    1.我知道只要LP就行了。
    2. 和 3. 该提供点啥?

      2. you have to be Ontario resident for at least a year to be eligible OSAP, if not, provide the document that can explain the reason you left Ontario after you landed, etc. if you have an explanation, the one-year requirement could be execused.

      3. You are an independant student, claimed that your income is less than 6200$, OSAP needs some proof that what other income source may support your daily living cost, i.e. savings, social assistance. OSAP assume that the annual cost living in Ontario is more than 6200$.
      • Thanks but more questions :) :

        3. Are the bank statement ok?

          • Thanks u, but if I wanna apply the federal loan in Ontario, I also need apply from OSAP.
            • I think you can. I think I told you before my friend only arrived for 6 months and got 14000 from OSAP. Just follow the instruction and apply ONLINE.
    • 2. I think the definition of resident in Ontario in OSAP website is that you didn't live in other province. I think you are eligible for that. 3. A list states that you have bank savings and your daily costs.
    • I think 12 month residence is mandatory, but I could be wrong in some cases. If you guys can wait until tomorrow afternoon, I will ask OSAP staff.
      • I think it really depends on individual situation. In another word, depends only on your luck. But anyway, it is best we can get the official answer.
      • Thanks a lot!
