As a new Java learner, when should I start using WYSIWYG tools for Java? (WYSIWYG--What You See Is What You Get)

I've finished half of a tutorial book and still stick to the most basic java tool: JDK 1.2.2 (the command line tool). While a friend of mine, who started using JB4 and Visual Age one week after he began his Java study. He encourages me to jump to Visual Age because "it saves your time" and get you familiar with the most popular Java IDE tool in north America. I'm really confused. I have those most updated versions of JBuilder and Visual Age in my computer but not yet installed. I thought I was supposed to get very, very familiar with JDK 1.2.2 first before I start using Visal Age. But when should I start? Is it time for me now?

(PS: if anybody here who needs Visual Age 3.5 enterprise version, pls contact me, I can give you the link. Only you got to have fast internet connection like Rogers@home, because the files are huge, 2CDs)

    • You should use IDE now...
To develop GUI, one had better use IDE. IDE is nothing but a wrapped JDK. To use IDE, you still need set CLASSPATH, add new library, set output path, ..... If you can do all these using JDK, you should be OK with IDE.
