1。seciruty on net work would be a gateway, a proxy webserver in DMZ. Firewalls between webserver, app server, database server. Consider your budget, a proxy server in DMZ would give you maximum enhancement in network security, cluster your servers for HA, apache or squid is good choice for proxy server, also provide load balance.
Using Hispeed would be a good start, if the concurrent access overcome the bandwidth, add more DSL connection, there are several products in the market using multiple DSL connections (and/or multiple ISPs), you can increase data bandwidth in a very cost effective (ex. ZAppSvr)
2. enough power is a must, since 4000 or 4500 will consume a pretty power supply (think about 14 CPU ). You may need a decent UPS to meet the need, however, I am not the king on this subjust
3. there are tons of e-business framework on internet, (seems you are using java with JBoss aren’t u?) the latest framework concept is IOC. By spring framework, the demo application is called APPFUSE, personally, consider the performance, security, extensibility, struts would be the front tier framework, spring as middle tier, persistent could be EJB, hibernate or iBatis talk to whatever database you choose.
