Help!!! about installation of Red Hat Linux8

My computer now is running Windows 2000 pro. I want to install Linux as a second OS. I downloaded 3 disc Linux.iso and resumed them using Deamon and burned them into CDs. I also created a floppy boot disc from the first CD.

My conpter has 10 GB unformatted space which is enough for Linux. When I installed Linux. an error was reported as following, "The Red Hat Linux CD was not found in any of your CDROM drives, please insert the Red Hat Linux CD and retry".

Actually, My CDROM works very well. Please help me. Thanks a lot.

1）机器出这个错误以前，CD灯亮过没有？如果亮过，显然是你放的CD不对，应该把1号盘先放进去
2）1号盘是启动盘，如果机器能从CD启动，你不妨试试用1号盘启动
3）如果还是不工作，你可能需要去看看linux 的supported hardware list, 也许你需要当你的CD驱动程序

顺便问一声，你用的是什么CD，怎么跟主板连接的？

1号盘不能启动。我用1号盘做的启动软盘可以启动。难道是光驱的问题么？我刚买的光驱，CD-R/RW, LG的牌子，我将原来的CD-ROM拆了直接装上的。Windows2000的盘可以启动的，我刚试过。会是什么问题呢？请再多帮帮我，多谢多谢！！！

偶嚼得是盘没烧好, 盘得ID跟盘的启动区是不是都没有烧上去,你用什么烧的盘呢? 应该用烧映像的办法,比如nero 有burn from image 然后选iso 文件, 如果你只是拷贝iso上的文件到CD上肯定不work的 -tztz(tztz); 2003-2-15 (#1042561@0)

Now the Red Hat Linux 8 is running in my computer. This is the first time I saw it. The best thing is that it is much similiar to windows. The worst thing is that it is much too similiar to windows.

I haven't tried text mode. which one is the best? I mean the stablity.

在login 以前,在System选用twm,然后就是很老式的界面了, 现在的界面有很大的灵活性,可以模仿windows, 或者Mac, OS2, 在gnome里面 redhat/preference/theme 可以选 -tztz(tztz); 2003-2-20 (#1053673@0)

安装时会问你安装打包文件的目录的

Mandrake is more user friendly, redhat is more compatible w/ old/new hardwares. if you can make mandrake on your box, it's not bad. it's heavier in gui. 3. do "which gcc", and "alias cc=`which gcc`" 4. buy a compatible nic, cheap if you have free isa or pci slot. there're 9 ttys each accessible w/ alt-ctrl-f[n]
